I bought my first domain name in 2000 and now own over 300 domain names. Most of my domains are geodomains or (Cape Cod) local exact match domain names, but there are a few that cover other niches.

I only had a few domain names when I met Rob Sequin at a local business event in 2002. We started talking and I told him about my eBay affiliate websites. Come to find out he was an eBay powerseller and was also into acquiring dropped domain names (registering or bidding on domain names that have expired due to non-payment of renewal fees).

We kept in touch and he called me one day to tell me that firstauction.com was going to drop and he had a good chance to get it.

First Auction was one of the first auction sites on the internet and was actually an eBay partner back in 1998. It even had still has a link from the eBay corporate website. I told him to get the name and we could partner on it and run it as an eBay affiliate site.

First Auction was a major eBay affiliate success until Google finally nuked it in 2005. We sold it in 2006 for $20,000. We invested some of the affiliate money into domain names and sold dozens of domain names during that period including voip.us, mesothelioma.org and the misspelling mesotheloma.com.

Many of these were 5 figure deals. Today Rob is a domain buyer broker and owns hundreds of domain names.

I lease some of my exact match domain names to local businesses and use many of the other domains for local lead generation.
